Welcome to
Peterson Acoustics
I started Peterson Acoustics in 2004 but first became interested in instrument building while working as the owner of my cabinet shop, Peterson Woodcrafts in 1997. An article in an issue of The Woodworker's Journal that year inspired me to try making my first stringed instrument, a flat top fiddle. It was actually rather playable!
From there, I ventured into the guitar world, but soon decided that if I was going to build guitars, I needed to learn more about the craft, so I went to a two week guitar building class with George Morris at Vermont Instruments in 2004 where I built a guitar that has now been played all over world by Christian artist Steve Green. I've always had a guitar in the works since that experience!
I've now built over 140 guitars, and have enjoyed hearing my guitars played by friends, family, and professional musicians across the globe.
I strive to design guitars that are unique, artistic, and make beautiful music, often featuring reclaimed wood from the local Texas Hill Country area and old worn out pianos as well as traditional fine tonewoods from around the world.
